Are you feeling uncomfortable right now in your life? Are you feeling an urge to do something but you don’t really know what? Let me tell you…me too! I live in the North so we are coming to the final weeks of winter here, and I always, I mean always, get spring fever.

I get this pent up feeling that is uncomfortable but at the same time I feel excited. I feel uncomfortable because I can sense the time of transition and change this time of year brings and excited because, I know before too long I will be soaking up the sun and enjoying much longer days.

The thing is, I can feel the discomfort and anticipation and still feel good about it because I understand what I’m feeling is totally normal and natural. It’s the seasonal shift and it’s usual for us to feel uncomfortable. We are going through a change just as the earth is going through hers.

We are feeling cooped up, ready to burst, and out of balance. We want outside and we’re itching to move on to the next season. We sense a new beginning.

Thank of it this way. When you’re feeling irritable, hungry, and ready to burst then you realize it’s a few days before your period and you feel better simply because you understand why you feel the way you do, same thing applies to this time of year.

We are well rested and full of energy. We can feel our batteries recharging and we can use this energy to enjoy improve our life.

Here are 5 ways to enjoy this shifting season and take advantage of our renewed energy.

1. Take advantage of the still sometimes bad weather to get in a little more rest.

Winter is winding down which means we will be in busy spring/summer mode before we know it. We will be running from one event to the next, go-go-go. Take the rest days while they are here. I know we are feeling cooped up and antsy to be moving and shaking, but trust me, rest now while you can.

-Plan in some free time to snuggle in with a hot tea and good book or Netflix.

2. Take advantage of the sometimes nice weather to get outside and walk.

We are getting nicer days and milder temps, even here in Michigan I’ve seen the sun a bit more lately. When the days are especially nice, get out and enjoy the sunshine and get some vitamin D flowing through your system. Let it recharge your batteries and get you energized.

-This is a great time to re evaluate your fitness routine and think about adding in more outdoor activities in the next few months. Taking walks, hiking, swimming, biking, and picnicking are a few to think of. Wait did I say picnicking? Yup, no take backs.

3. Freshen up your look

I always get interested in changing up my style in the spring and again in the fall, but especially after a long winter. I am tired of warm bulky sweaters and boots and I can’t wait to wear lighter layers and no socks.

-Time to get that pedicure in the calendar!

-You can shop your closet or get out to the stores and see what’s fresh and speaking to you this season. Maybe you add a new trend or refresh your classics, either way, we are itching for change and for many of us this is a good way to scratch that itch.

-Update your hair. I got new highlights and a new layered hair cut and I feel great. Ready to take on the world.

Bring. It. On!

4. Freshen up your life

-Clean up your diet. It’s a great time to take a look at what you’re eating and clear out some of the heavy foods and other things you’re ready to ditch. Sugar, flour, and other packaged and processed foods can hit the road.

This is the perfect time of year to revamp your diet because produce will be getting amazing and you will be inspired to change because you’re wearing less forgiving clothing. Trading heavy layers and showing a bit more skin always helps in the motivation department.

-Clear out your house. Use the pent up energy your feeling to tackle some purging, cleaning, and organizing. Get it done now because in a month or two you will be outside and on to other things.

-Same deal with your car, phone app, podcasts, book shelf, and office spaces. Clear the decks, and start fresh.

-Get rid of the social activities, community responsibilities, and other stuff you no longer enjoy; it’s just clogging your calendar. Free up time for your summer vacation, girl’s nights out, and days relaxing in a hammock.

5. Decide what this year is going to look like, how you’re going to show up, and what changes or goals you plan to make happen.

I know it’s not the new year but our minds and bodies don’t care. We feel a new beginning, a coming change, a building energy waiting to come forth this time of year. We feel an urge we can’t identify, an uncomfortable excitement we don’t know what to do with.

Take some time to look ahead in the year and ask yourself these questions.

-What do you want this year to look like?

-Who do you want to be this year?

-What are you going to do?

-Maybe you start with what you don’t want. You might not want another year of being over weight and feeling like crap. You might not want another year of running around like a chicken with its head cut off. You might not want another year of complaining, gossiping, and not changing.

-Use that to build what this year could look like and think about how to make that happen. This is the perfect beginning because you are rested and ready to take on something new, the natural season supports this.

So understand why you feel the way you do and enjoy it and most importantly use it to take charge and create the life you want.

That’s it. I’m pumped up just sharing this with you and feel ready to go after it…!
